The List: Top 10 wealth management firms in Washington state

Since the late 1960s, Seattle?s Laird Norton family has seen its business, which was set up as a family trust company, evolve into a robust wealth-management firm with 425 clients and $4 billion in assets under management.

But the Great Recession triggered some soul searching at Laird Norton Tyee, the wealth management company that is part of the overall Laird Norton Co. Ultimately, the seventh-generation family, which traces its roots back to when timber was king in the Pacific Northwest, chose to continue the unit with a new name ? Laird Norton Wealth Management ? and rebranding campaign.

The new branding and spending on employees, technology and a face-lift of the firm?s Seattle headquarters come at a time when wealth management firms face a host of challenges.
