Small Business Saturday Celebrated In Old City ? CBS Philly

By John McDevitt

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) ? An effort to support local business is taking place today throughout the nation.

Things kicked off with Mimosas and Muffins at ?More than Old? along North 3rd near Arch Street in Old City to celebrate Small Business Saturday.

Beth Gibson runs the shop which offers a wide variety of gifts mostly made in the USA.

?Small businesses are really important first of all to the economy. If you don?t have small businesses, mom and pop shops, out here when everything gets to be big box you?re not going to have the local economy in play. Everything is going to be imported,? says Gibson.

Shoppers were getting discounts on purchases over $100.

Three years ago, American Express created Small Business Saturday, it says, to help small businesses struggling during the recession.
